Using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube As Marketing Tools
Using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube As Marketing Tools
Article by Using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube As Marketing ToolsJohn Boswell
Social media has exploded in popularity in the last four years and has proven to be extremely effective for people to keep in touch online. But more recently, it has shown to have tremendous marketing potential, helping people boost their websites rankings, advertise services and save resources. This short article will go through the three biggest names in social media and how can than assist your marketing campaign.
FacebookFacebook is a website where users can stay in touch with friends, and see see their own friends and connect with them. At the core of it, it works on the principle of “friends of friends”. In terms of marketing, this can be translated to “word of mouth marketing”. Businesses can set up pages on the site which include photos, information on the company, location and more. It also offers features such as status updates, which you can update with news of services, new products and special offers.
The major benefit of this is that when people join the page, they receive these updates on their own profiles. Facebook is completely free to join and therefore is a cost effective way of advertising to your customers, who are statistically easier to sell to. It also helps your rankings as backlinking from your Facebook page to your website will increase traffic and your PageRank.
TwitterAgain, twitter works in the same way as Facebook although it is far more simplified. Twitter has essentially mini updates of about 160 characters, which can be followed by those that join a profile. Like Facebook, these can be used to link to special offers and updates in services and any news in your blogs. It provides numerous valuable backlinks to your site or blogs increasing it’s online presence.
YouTubeYouTube is the largest video sharing website in the world, with over 2 million new videos being uploaded every day. Much of the YouTube community consists of video bloggers, animation, music, film, gaming and a whole host of other fields of media. It has also been an extremely powerful SEO tool to some businesses, typically those that sell physical products or software. Videos are much more user friendly as it gives people the chance to see a product or service in action, rather than just reading about it. For this reason, people will often turn to videos to see how a product works.
Like the other two platforms, YouTube also allows profiles to be set up, the difference being that the media format is video rather than text or images. Companies can set up their own profile pages, list their videos and categorise them relevantly on the site to ensure the right people view them. Each video can also provide a backlink to the site which naturally boosts rankings in search results for your site.
Crucially, it’s important to remember what content to upload. Constantly advertising products and trying to sell is not a good idea. Vary the content to news, free advice and any developments in your field of business. People are far more likely to return to fresh content.

Are Facebook and Twitter Replacing the Need to Blog Among the Younger Generation?
Are Facebook and Twitter Replacing the Need to Blog Among the Younger Generation?
Article by Robert Speyer
Marketers need to adjust to the demands of the marketplace. Today’s younger generation is further distancing themselves from us older “geeks” by redefining how they look or view the world. One obvious example is the Social Revolution that began in Tunis, energized in Egypt and spread to the entire Arab world.
Today’s youth is increasingly being served their information through Facebook and Twitter and less and less through other more traditional media such as blogs and broadcast news. Does this mean that Facebook is going to replace blogs among the younger generation?
A Pew StatisticsWith the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, the youth are moving towards quick updates to make their opinions felt, link to articles that irritate them, comment on news stories and events and share pictures and promote a worthy cause. Blogs still do that but the social media networking sites are rapidly replacing that function. Isn’t competition a wonderful thing?
The Internet and American Life Project at the Pew Research Center found that from 2006 to 2009, blogging among children ages 12 to 17 fell by half; now 14 percent of children those ages who use the Internet have blogs. In a more recent survey among 18-to-33-year-olds, the project said blogging dropped two percentage points in 2010 from two years earlier.
Reasons for the slight drop were: former bloggers were too busy to write and were disappointed by the lack of readership; other bloggers cited the efficiency of social networking in connecting with family and friends.
Blogs Are More Interested in Making History than Being HistoryIf people want more in depth information, blogs are still the answer (for the time being). Not everything should be tasty morsels of information. To be better informed, blogs definitely have their calling.
It is important to note bloggers do have a symbiotic relationship with Facebook and Twitter. Bloggers use these social sites to promote their blog posts and hope to reach a broader audience by doing so. Instead of being competitors, bloggers should look at them as enhancing their blog presence.
If the younger generation is losing interest in Blogs and Blogging, us over “30 geeks” and our middle age and older counterparts are very comfortable with blogs. According to Pew during the last two years, the 34 to 45 year-olds using the Internet have increased their blog usage by six points to 16 percent. Blogging by 46 to 55 year-olds increased five points to 11 percent and blogging for 65 to 73 year-olds increased two points to 8 percent.
A Changing WorldviewI wouldn’t discount the power of blogs. They are still considered alternative media and are an excellent source of grassroots information exchange. And I wouldn’t underestimate the younger generation in their ability to disseminate information. They are not the sound bite and channel changing generation they are so often depicted. They are perhaps the most informed generation yet. They can move mountains with their talents and certainly will change the political landscape of the world for years to come.

Twitter announced via its blog various changes aimed at allowing users finer-grained control
Twitter announced via its blog various changes aimed at allowing users finer-grained control
Article by Wholesaleeshop.com.au
Twitter on Tuesday announced via its blog various changes aimed at allowing users finer-grained control over their accounts. To date, when another application (such as TweetBot, Twitterrific, or Echofon) or Web service (such as Favstar) requested access to your Twitter account, it was an all or nothing deal: Granting a third-party access to your Twitter account meant giving it not only the ability to read and post tweets on your behalf, but also full access to your direct message history. After Twitter implements the change it announced today, however, users will get the ability to specify whether they want to allow third-party apps to access that direct message history.
On Wednesday, the company clarified just how the new permission model will work. In an announcement to developers, Twitter declared that apps that don’t need access to your direct messages won’t need to change a thing. Apps that do depend upon offering access to those direct messages–in effect, any full-featured Twitter client—-will need to update themselves to leverage Twitter’s OAuth system.
A quick background: When you log into Twitter via a third-party app or service, that service needn’t know or store your password. It can use one of two authorization mechanisms: xAuth, wherein the app gets your login credentials from you and sends them off to Twitter for verification, and oAuth, where the app actually sends you to Twitter to provide your username and password, and Twitter tells the app whether you’ve successfully logged in or not.
Most Web apps historically rely on oAuth; you’re already using the Web, so sending you off to Twitter’s site for a moment during the login process flows naturally. Most non-Web third-party apps–iOS apps and Mac apps, for example–prefer to go the xAuth route, which allows for a more seamless experience.
So what does this all mean? It means that unless Twitterrific and the rest issue updates to their apps by Twitter’s deadline of “the end of this month,” those apps will soon be unable to display or send your direct messages. That would obviously leave such third-party apps rather crippled; any user who relies on direct messages will instead be greeted by some unspecified error and/or blank direct messages list.
Thus, it’s rather likely that we’ll see a slew of third-party Twitter app updates in the next couple weeks. But in order for those apps to embrace Twitter’s new permission model, they’ll need to embrace oAuth. If you use third-party desktop or iOS apps that leverage Facebook’s login credentialing system, you already have a sense of what this will look like.
When you log in to Facebook via a third party app, that app must briefly display an inline Web view of the Facebook login screen. If it’s your first time logging in with that app, you’re then asked to approve the specific Facebook permissions that app is requesting.http://www.wholesaleeshop.com.au/laptop-battery/toshiba-pa3285u-3bas.htm
Of course, as John Gruber points out (warning: salty language), if you use Twitter with multiple accounts, the oAuth process will make the initial setup process distinctly more frustrating: After using oAuth to log in with your first account via the Web, you’ll need to log out of the Twitter Website and log back in with the next account to connect it via oAuth. And you’ll repeat that log out, log in dance for each account you want to set up.Twitter apps formerly accustomed to relying on the more native-feeling xAuth experience will now require a similar in-app oAuth Web view, either as their sole approach to logging in, or only when users first attempt to access direct messaging after previously logging in via xAuth.
There are a few Twitter apps that will be excluded from Twitter’s new oAuth requirement: Twitter’s official clients across all platforms. Twitter developer Ryan Sarver confirmed–via a tweet, naturally–that the service’s own apps aren’t subject to rules for third-party developers.

Did Twitter, Facebook build a revolution?
Ft. Lauderdale “Software Best Practices Conference”, Nov 2009 – 04

Note: this photo was published on the May 23, 2010 issue of the Gadgets blog, with the same title as the caption that I used on this Flickr page. It was also published in a Dec 27, 2010 Nice Software Photos blog, with the same title and detailed notes as what I had written on this Flickr page.
**************************************
Visitors to my Flickr site sometimes assume that I’m a full-time photographer, but that’s hardly the case. As I’ve explained on my profile page, my "day job" is in the computer field: I work as a consultant, speaker, and author in software development and project management. That job includes speaking at various computer conferences, including the IT Metrics and Productivity Institute’s "Software Best Practices" conferences that are held in various parts of the country.
That’s what brought me to Ft. Lauderdale in mid-November this year. I thought I might find some interesting photographic opportunities when I arrived on the afternoon before the conference, but the beach was almost empty, and the "strip" along the beach seemed to consist of relatively boring bars and Mexican restaurants. So, aside from a single picture of a mysterious bird that I saw waddling along the street (an osprey? heron? who knows?), most of the pictures are of various speakers at the conference itself. These may not mean much to you, but it will give at least a small sense of some of the issues that software professionals and IT managers care about in today’s tough economic times…

Promotion of blogs on Twitter is very important
Promotion of blogs on Twitter is very important
Article by har2gun
There are occasions when the person does not have the time to write much. He/ she is in such a situation where writing 160 characters is also not possible. In such a situation Twitter come to the rescue of many people. For example, in 2008 April a journalist who had just graduated from Berkeley was covering an agitation in Egypt. During this he got arrested and there was no time that he could write the message on the mobile. He just posted the word arrested on his profile in Twitter through his mobile phone. His followers in return informed the US Embassy in Egypt and at the same time alerted Berkeley. The outcome was great and a lawyer was hired for him to bail him out of the jail the very next day. This does not mean that to become popular the person on Twitter has to get arrested. By this, it means that if the person has a good profile on Twitter his/ her followers will go to any measure to help the person whom they are following. Twitter is a place where any person who is in any problem can ask for help and they will get some sort of help in return. The easy way to find help on twitter is simple. It should be asked from people who the person knows has the power to do so. This can only work if there are many followers and the data base should be huge. As the number increases of the followers on Twitter, there are high chances that the person gets the help that he/ she asked for. This means that the person should always pay close attention to what their followers are saying in order to understand and know who would be the right person to ask for help. Also if the follower is unable to help, he/she will try to introduce someone who would be keen to help the person in need. When the publishing of blogs started, the significance of it was nothing more than the concept of online diaries for the people so that they could write exactly what they feel and what they thought. They wanted everyone to read what their exact feelings were. Today blogs have become more popular and the effect of publishing has grown. The blogs are more than a personal page today. It is more like an online magazine. Now the benefit of it is that the publishers can write anything they want and they get paid for the same. The only disadvantage of blog now is that they are no longer personal. The first or one can say the most important thing that Twitter does for a blog is to get the personality back for the writers. The bloggers use Twitter to give a brief introduction to the readers about their business, they give or can provide notes about their plans and the posts that they are working on and at the same time they answer the questions directly to the readers themselves. This can be done by anyone and they can create a blog for themselves and more over they should. It should be kept in mind that if the blogs takes off for a particular person, then it won’t be possible for him/her to answer all the comments or the post that they receive every day. It is a fact that the writers should agree that their blogs wont interest all the people. The visitors would prefer to read about cars and photographs of the site that they are going to visit. The Twitter website can give the blogs and its publishers a space so that they can get a closer look about their readers. At the same time, the site can help the writer in getting more publicity and get new readers as well. The writers can announce their blogs on the site and it is very simple to do so. There are many sites on the net that charge huge amount of money to advertise but on Twitter, that is not the case at all. More over things are much simpler. This can simply be done by putting or posting tweets on their profile in the form of blogs and that has to have a personal message as well. The best part is that the person does not have to do anything spectacular. The person just has to include a title and a link to the message. Also the person should show that there is some sort of personal feeling involved in the blog that is posted. It should be such that the stranger is also ready to lend a hand in case the person is in some sort of problem. This way is becomes easy for the person who wants to get the publicity of the blog. In the beginning the person can start interacting with his/ her followers as to what they would like to discuss and what they would like to read next in their blog, things like that. If this is done then the follower will feel that they are getting personal attention from the writer. In this fashion the writer can get the publicity that they are looking for and that also at no cost at all. Thus one can say that it is important that the write promotes the blogs through Twitter.
