There have been a few articles here at Bloggers Weekly about how to bring people to your blog. Let’s go the other way and take a look at how to find other blogs. It took me a while to build up a list of blogs that I like and read regularly. I didn’t know how to find blogs other than Blog Explosion and I didn’t find very many there that interested me. Slowly I found some ways to seek out new blogs that I actually enjoy. Below are just a few quick and easy ways to find some blogs.
One way would is to use your favorite search engine. Just type in a subject that interests you and the word blog, for example “cats blog”, and see what comes up. It might take some time to sift through and find some good blogs, but this hunt should lead you to some true gems. Also, you may find some truly bizarre, yet amusing web pages. Your results may vary. Trying “television blog” gave me several million hits, however “palatypus blog” only yielded one website and it wasn’t a blog.
Just out of courtesy you should make a point of visiting the blogs of people that leave comments on your posts. You obviously wrote something of interest to them so chances are they may have posted something that is of interest to you. Spend some time on their blog and read a few of their posts. Similarly, check out blogs by those who post comments at your favorite blogs.
Once you’ve found blogs you like, take a stroll through their blogroll. You’re bound to find some blogs that interest you. It stands to reason that blogs you decide to read are bound to link to other blogs of similar interest.
Technorati is also an excellent place to search for blogs in your interest groups. You can search by keywords, exact phrases and even eliminate words from your search. I know of at least one person who has discovered my blog through Technorati. I haven’t used this tool much, but plan to in the future.
Of course you can always try Blog Explosion, but you’ll have to go through a lot of blogs you aren’t interested in before you find one you do. Therein also lays addiction, so if you choose this route be aware of the time it’s likely to consume.
These are just a few simple things I’ve found that have helped in finding blogs. Feel free to use the comments to share yours. Oh, and be sure to visit the blogs of those who do comment here. You might like what you find.
